Double Feature

005

This week two shorts that I produced screened here at Chapman Dodge: Be Water, My Friend, and Things in The Deep. Working on both projects was incredibly fun and rewarding, as my incredible crews brought these films to life and made the filmmaking process on these so much fun.

Things in The Deep follows two engineers who investigate a mysterious breach in an underwater piping system. The film was shot back in January as part of a Virtual Production class here at Dodge. We used an LED wall and Unreal Engine along with a practical set of our steampunk submarine cockpit to bring this pulpy 4-minute film to life. This was such a fun project to work on, and I am really happy with the film my wonderfully creative, and talented crew cooked up.

Every semester at Dodge third-year students from different majors and areas of specialization collaborate on an 8-minute Advanced Production short film (basically a smaller-scale thesis). This spring saw a total of 24 APs, including Be Water, My Friend. The film is a satire that follows Zhiyi, a first-generation Chinese immigrant struggling to find his way in America. I absolutely loved producing Be Water, My Friend which I have been working on since December. My director, Sean Yang, was amazing, and I could not have asked for a better crew. It was truly a privilege to make this film happen.

These two films screening the same weekend feels like the culmination of my work this semester, and a fitting end to my Junior Year at Chapman. As I close this chapter, I am excited for what comes next.
