I haven’t made a post in a while, and many things have happened since.
So first off, the release of The Restroom. This is an independent short film I co-produced that shot over a year ago in August of 2022. I was just starting my junior year at Dodge, and didn’t have much experience producing. The Restroom was a really fun project to be a part of, and the (mostly) all-female crew really made things run incredibly smoothly. Truly an amazing set to be on. We shot over two afternoons/nights at a local cafe’s bathroom. While the location was amazing and looked gorgeous in the picture, it did cause some audio issues, as the place was really loud. But we made it work and managed to still finish this short film of ours. Post-production was fun, the first cut of the film was 25 minutes long and it took a while to chip at it until we reached our final cut. With it being over a year in the making, I’m extremely happy to be done with it but its release does feel a bit strange. Since shooting The Restroom I produced, and finished, both Things in The Deep and Be Water, My Friend. So in my mind, The Restroom feels like a junior fall/sophomore summer project whereas the other two feel more recent. So, this is the first real project I produced at Chapman (even though it’s an independent) and I’m happy with how it turned out, I absolutely loved working with this talented crew.
This past summer I interned at Fuzzy Door, Seth MacFarlane’s production company. I helped the development team with daily tasks and learned so much during my time there. I honestly could not have asked for a better internship experience and first Hollywood job. The world of development is a really complex and interesting one. The three months I was there really flew by, and I met so many wonderful people and got to work on some amazing projects that I can’t wait to see come out! (Keep an eye out for Good Times on Netflix and TED on Peacock). My experience at Fuzzy Door only reinforced my love for film and made me feel very cool. 😎
And now summer is over. I am deep in pre-production for my senior thesis, VIDA, a 15-minute short that I will talk more about in the near future. Really excited to work for this one, and happy to share these updates 🫡
